Bl.é Art

About

Here, the line becomes a language, a means to construct, reveal, and transform the image.

My name is Éric Blanchot, an illustrator and artist based in Strasbourg. Under the signature Bl.é, I explore a territory where the line becomes language.

Each creation is born from a line: straight, clean, sometimes tense, sometimes free. It structures space, builds light, and gives form to the image. My work is based on a constant dialogue between precision and spontaneity, order and movement.

My approach has recently evolved towards a more experimental style. I develop compositions based on interlocking grids of colored rectangles, which embrace and extend the linear drawing.

These visual constructions, at the boundary between figuration and abstraction, offer a dual interpretation: immediate from a distance, more open and subjective up close.

Journey & Influences

My journey has been shaped at the intersection of design, imagery, and a constant focus on composition.

A former student in communication, illustration workshop at the École supérieure des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg, I first worked in the fields of visual design, art direction, and digital communication. These experiences strengthened my demand for clarity, composition, and visual coherence.

Today, I share my world through exhibitions, collaborations, and art editions. I also teach graphic arts and concept art in several creative, art, and design schools, where I encourage students to think of the line not as a constraint, but as a form of writing.

My influences are diverse and often transversal, drawing from both artistic references and contemporary visual cultures, which I appropriate and reinterpret through my own language.

Artistic Intention

To explore what the line can suggest: a tension, a rhythm, a presence.

My work is a search for balance between structure, mastery, and suggestion. Through my creations, I seek to make visible what the line can express in its simplicity: a rhythm, a tension, a presence.

My recent approach explores a more open perception of the image. My works do not impose themselves immediately, but reveal themselves according to the distance, the gaze, and the sensibility of each individual. Each creation thus becomes an evolving visual experience, where the viewer completes the reading.

Writing & Structure

Every image is born from a system of lines where construction and perception evolve together.

I compose exclusively with straight lines, playing with their thickness and tension to suggest light, volume, and depth. This linear language structures all my work and guides the construction of each image.

It is currently expressed through two complementary approaches. One relies on a drawing formed by lines with varied orientations, creating a continuous and legible geometric script. The other, more recent, is based on a network of vertical and horizontal lines that fragment the visual and alter its perception.

These two approaches share a common quest for balance between organization and visual tension, giving rise to images that evolve depending on distance and perspective.

Approach & View

Move the image to reveal another interpretation, between visual memory and transformation.

This research also forms part of a broader reflection on the perception and transformation of images. Some creations draw on references from visual culture, used as a starting point for reinterpretation.

The image is then displaced, reconstructed, and integrated into a graphic system that redefines its balances. This process introduces a distance: what seems familiar at first glance gradually transforms as one approaches it.

This approach opens up a more evolutionary interpretation, where the image reveals itself over time and according to the attention given to it.

Processes & Techniques

From initial sketch to vector composition, each stage refines precision and balance.

My work is primarily digital, while retaining a traditional foundation. Initial ideas take shape on paper or on Procreate. The artwork is then created using Adobe Illustrator to achieve optimal precision and sharpness.

The works are then produced as high-definition art prints, on premium paper or rigid supports (wood, metal, plexiglass), with particular attention paid to the reproduction of lines and the balance of colors.
